A tenacidade da madeira é uma propriedade mecânica de interesse em situações em que o carregamento por impacto deve ser considerado, encontrando aplicação em silos, pontes e fôrmas para estruturas de concreto armado. Apesar das recomendações do Anexo B - NBR 7190:1997, não tem sido usual a determinação da tenacidade na caracterização da madeira. Este trabalho objetivou investigar a influência do teor de umidade (30; 20; 12; 6; 0%) na obtenção da tenacidade da madeira angelim-saia (Vatairea sp), Eucalyptus grandis, Pinus elliottii e Corymbia citriodora, considerando a orientação dos anéis de crescimento em relação à direção da força de impacto. Análises estatísticas dos resultados por análise de variância (ANOVA) e teste de Tukey revelaram ser significativa a influência do teor de umidade na tenacidade apenas para a madeira de angelim-saia. Para as demais espécies, a análise estatística demonstrou resultados estatisticamente equivalentes, ou seja, o teor de umidade não foi influente na propriedade de tenacidade. Neste sentido, foi observado que o teor de umidade pode ser significativo na obtenção da tenacidade conforme a espécie e que maiores teores podem fornecer valores superiores desta propriedade.

Wood toughness is a mechanical property of interest in structural design where load impact must be considered, as in the construction of silos, bridges and formwork for reinforced concrete structures. However, toughness is not an integral part of the mechanical properties commonly investigated in the characterization of this material. This study aimed to investigate, with the aid of analysis of variance and Charpy pendulum test, the influence of moisture content (30; 20; 12; 6; 0%) to obtain the toughness of angelim saia (Vatairea sp), Eucalyptus grandis, Pinus elliottii and Corimbia citriodora wood species, considering the orientation of growth rings in relation to the direction of impact load. Statistical analysis carried out using ANOVA and Tukey test revealed significant influence of moisture content on toughness only with respect to angelim saia wood. Statistical analysis also showed equivalent results for the other three species, that is, moisture content did not significantly influence toughness. Thus, we conclude that moisture content may be significant in obtaining toughness according to the wood species analyzed and higher moisture content can provide higher values of toughness.

Tests simulating exposure to severe weather conditions have been relevant in seeking new applications for particleboard. This study aimed to produce particleboards with residues of CCB (chromium-copper-boron oxides) impregnated Pinus sp. and castor oil-based polyurethane resin, and to evaluate their performance before and after artificial accelerated aging. Panels were produced with different particle mass, resin content and pressing time, resulting eight treatments. Particles moisture and size distribution were determined, beyond panel physical and mechanical properties, according to NBR14810-3: 2006. After characterization, treatments B and G (small adhesive consumption and better mechanical performance, respectively) were chosen to artificial aging tests. Statistical results analysis showed best performances were achieved for waterproof aged samples, of both B and G treatments. As example, in treatment B, MOR and MOE values were 23 MPa and 2,297 MPa, samples before exposure; 26 MPa and 3,185 MPa, 32 MPa and 3,982 MPa for samples after exposure (non-sealed and sealed), respectively.

ABSTRACT The dimensions of test specimens employed in wood characterization are always established searching situations where friction interference is annulled in deformation measurements. NBR 7190 norm (ABNT, 1997) - Annex B adopts specimens to compression parallel to grain tests with 1:3 ratio between the side (50 mm) of cross section and length, while COPANT 464 (COPANT, 1972) and ASTM D 143 (ASTM, 1982) establish 1:4 ratio. The purpose of this research was to determine whether 1:3, 1:4 and 1:5 ratios in the specimens, referring respectively to 150, 200 and 250 mm lengths could influence the Ec0 obtained in compression parallel to grain test. Analyses were performed in ‘Canelao’ (Nectandra membranacea), Corymbia citriodora and ‘Angelim’ (Vatairea sp.) species. E c0 values for the mentioned species were statistically equivalent at 5% significance level, demonstrating that length variation did not affect the property values analyzed.

RESUMO As dimensões de corpos-de-prova para caracterização da madeira são estabelecidas sempre buscando situações em que seja anulada a interferência do atrito nas medidas de deformação. A NBR 7190 (ABNT, 1997) - Anexo B adota corpos-de-prova para o ensaio de compressão paralela às fibras com relação 1:3 entre uma aresta da seção transversal (50 mm) e o comprimento, enquanto a COPANT 464 (COPANT, 1972) e ASTM D 143 (ASTM, 1982) estabelecem a de 1:4. Este trabalho objetivou determinar se as proporções 1:3, 1:4 e 1:5 nos corpos-de-prova, referentes aos comprimentos de 150, 200 e 250 mm, respectivamente, influenciam o Ec0 obtido na compressão paralela às fibras. As análises foram realizadas nas espécies Canelão (Nectandra membranacea), Corymbia citriodora e Angelim (Vatairea sp.). Os valores de Ec0 para as espécies citadas apresentaram-se estatisticamente equivalentes entre si, ao nível de 5% de significância, demonstrando que as variações nos comprimentos dos corpos-de-prova não afetaram esta propriedade.
